A stock photography company has been accused of racism because it once published a photograph of two white children talking to what appears to be a black girl. The photograph showed the children, one wearing a blue shirt and the other sporting an orange shirt, standing in front of what looks like an elementary school building. The man in orange is pointing at his companion with his right hand while also holding a dollar bill with his left hand. In response, Azov Films Boy Azov Films Igor Azov Boy Azov Baikal Kdv Film Krivon Boys Baikal Films edited the image by replacing all black figures with white ones and filed for copyright abandonment on it. The photograph was created by a Russian photographer Hediger Wu. A number of years ago, he created a series of photographs showing children from various ethnic groups doing various activities with the same black girl. In an interview, Wu said that he chose to photograph children from different races solely because "it's nice to have diversity." He also asserted that his intention is not to offend anybody, and that he takes great pride in being able to create such a significant piece of art. In a blog post, publishing company Azov Films asked the public to boycott the photographer for making a racist photograph. In response, photographer Wu said that he was not trying to offend anybody and that his photographs were not intended to be racist. He also added that he is a supporter of minorities and does not discriminate against any race. However, he would like everyone to stop using the photograph because it was originally intended as a joke and no longer portrays the original intent it once had. Azov Films initially said they used the photo as an example of "what prejudice reaps." However, after receiving backlash from journalist and bloggers for being so insensitive by using the image without further comment, the company changed its initial stance on this matter. The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine has criticized Azov Films for attempting to portray the photographer as a racist, noting that the union is against the violation of human rights. The Union also stated that it does not support censorship of any kind, especially because it can be used to suppress an individual's freedom of speech.
